EMPATHY VS SYMPATHY

Empathy is the identification and understanding of a person's feelings or situation. Sympathy is compassion or commiseration. Empathy is direct understanding---the person who empathizes for another had the same or similar experience as the person currently suffering. Sympathy is merely pity for another. Even if the sympathizer hasn't had the same experience, he or she is sensitive enough to TRY and understand the sufferer's situation.



Both empathy and sympathy are feelings concerning other people. Sympathy is literally 'feeling with' - compassion for or commiseration with another person. Empathy, by contrast, is literally 'feeling into' - the ability to project one's personality into another person and more fully understand that person. Sympathy derives from Latin and Greek words meaning 'having a fellow feeling'. The term empathy originated in psychology (translation of a German term, c. 1903) and has now come to mean the ability to imagine or project oneself into another person's position and experience all the sensations involved in that position. You feel empathy when you've "been there", and sympathy when you haven't. Examples: We felt sympathy for the team members who tried hard but were not appreciated. / We felt empathy for children with asthma because their parents won't remove pets from the household.

Empathy- intellectual & emotional awareness and understanding of another person’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior even that are distressing

Sympathy- sharing another’s feelings especially in sorrow or trouble through imaginative identification with the other’s situation

OK OK! WHY AM I BLOGGING ABOUT THIS..?HERE IS A STORY:
THERE WAS ONCE A COUPLE WHO IS HAPPILY MARRIED BUT NOT BLESSED WITH ANY CHILD YET...THEY WERE MARRIED FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS....
THIS COUPLE IS THE SWEETEST COUPLE YOU CAN EVER KNOW...BUT LITTLE THAT I KNOW BY SHOW OR EXPRESSING MY BOTH EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY TO THEM AFTER ALL THIS YEARS WAS JUST AN SOUR TO THEM..THEY DIDNT TELL ME THAT THEY DIDNT WANT IT...BUT I GUESS THOSE FEELINGS COMES NATURALLY TO ME AS I AM A VERY SENSITIVE PERSON....BUT AGAIN I WAS SO SHOCK AFTER THEY HAD THEY 1ST CHILD EVERYTHING CAME OUT,I WAS NOT DIRECTLY HIT BUT I FELT THE HEAT WHEN THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT SOMEBODY ELSE WHO DID EXPRESS THE SAME FEELING I DID TO THEM....GOSHHHH I WAS BLOWN AWAY....NEVER JUDGE THE BOOK BY IT COVER

SO I LEARN MY LESSON...I AM GONNA STOP DOING (EXPRESSING) THAT TO EVERYONE...YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHO IS ANNOYED WITH YOU ....
